Kockelmann, the future already in the present
25 September 2025

At just 19 years old, Mathieu Kockelmann has transformed promises into certainties. Two weeks after triumphing in the Tour de l’Avenir, the Luxembourger raised his arms on Sunday, winning the final stage of the Tour de Luxembourg.
A victory full of panache, which also marks the very first line in his professional record.

From dream to reality
He was expected, and he delivered. Already touted as one of the greatest hopes in European cycling, Kockelmann took advantage of terrain he knows inside and out to make a big impact. On his country’s hilly roads, the rider withstood the onslaught of World Tour teams before dominating a small-group sprint, arms raised, to a roar worthy of the greatest finishes.

Val Suran, the stage that changed everything
Before this professional triumph, Kockelmann had already made his mark on the Tour de l’Avenir, in one of the most demanding stages of the race, in Val Suran. At this finish, he showed impressive strength, attacking in the final kilometers to distance all his competitors. His control of pace and his ability to remain calm under pressure made the difference, giving him a resounding victory and confirming that his name was now among the future leaders of the peloton.

The Tour de l’Avenir as a springboard
Success at Val Suran wasn’t just a flash in the pan. The Tour de l’Avenir, often considered the “Young Tour de France,” has revealed many future great champions, from Miguel Indurain to Tadej Pogacar. Kockelmann, with this professional victory in his first season, continues this tradition, demonstrating that his talent is destined to last.

A symbol for Luxembourg cycling
Luxembourg has not experienced such excitement since the glory days of Andy and Frank Schleck. By winning on home soil, Kockelmann has given his country an ambassador capable of stepping onto the international stage. A promise for the future, but already a well-established reality.

The public, in any case, was not mistaken: yesterday, an entire country rose to its feet to salute the emergence of its new champion.
